Lyeth Residence, Panama
The hilltop property's constant breeze and views of the Pacific Ocean and Santa Catalina Island gave direction to the design of the Lyeth's new home. The area's consistent year round temperature range, from a low of 70° to a high of 90°, and the location between the 8th and 9th latitude allowed the use of exterior areas as prime living space.
Parameters of design and detailing were set by the limitations of the available craftsmen. In order to take advantage of the site amenities, the functions of the house were separated into two elements and rotated 45°. The rotation of the elements provided an exterior fan-like terrace opening to the view and breeze. The resulting 90° angle creates a funnel that captures and directs breezes through the exterior rooms.
