Stallone Residence
Thomas M. Reddy Architect designed the remodel of the Stallone residence in the early '80s. That building was destroyed in the 1991 Oakland fire. The Stallones again contacted my office to work with them and their contractor, Allan Ratto. After the year long process of procuring a fair insurance settlement the redesign commenced. The Stallones wished to maximize the views and natural light in their home. Commercial curtain wall is employed at the Entry, on the south-west corner and south facade cantilever to achieve this goal. The living areas were located on the second floor to enhance the views of the San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate Bridge. The south and west facing openings are shaded with exterior motorized blinds to control the afternoon sun while preserving the views. The Kitchen-Family room terminates in a glass enclosed octogon which opens onto a bridge to the north hillside with an octagonal patio. Granite floors are installed throughout the residence over a radiant heat system. Brazilian Blue granite, chosen for the Kitchen-Family room, is also utilized in the countertop to harmonize with the handmade Italian tiles selected by the Stallones. the Entry Stair and Balcony railing were designed and built by a local metal sculptor.
